The villa at dusk, from the end of the jetty
The brief
[CLIENT] asked for a holiday villa for three generations, reached by boat and comfortable without air conditioning for most of the year.
The site
A shallow lagoon off a private island in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, so the piles and jetty had to leave the reef undisturbed.
Our design
One deep thatched roof shades a timber villa on piles. Rooms open on two sides so the breeze moves straight through, and the deck steps down into the water.
